The Recurrence of Great Historical Chronicles
The Great Britain will remember in history for twofold occasions in the House of Common; battle cry of the iconic and heroic address by the leaders, Churchill and Zelensky
During World War II who succeeded Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill heroically addressed in House of Common on 4th June 1940 shortly after the successful evacuation of British troops from Dunkirk just before France and Belgian Armies surrendered to Germany. We shall fight on beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. In his address to the House of Common: “We will not give up and we will not lose. We will fight till the end, at sea, in the end, we will continue fighting for our land. Whatever the lost. We will fight in the forests, fields, on the shores and in the streets.” (Scott, 2022)
On the 13th day of perilous uphill battle with Russian Armed Forces, a comedian president of Ukraine delivered a historic virtual address in the House of Common even attended by the House of Lord. In the words of Zelensky: "We will not give up, and we will not lose. We will fight to the end in the sea, in the air. We will fight for our land, whatever the costs. We will fight in the forests, in the fields, on the shores, in the streets."
Zelensky’s address echoed fourscore old Churchill reassurance to the service men and Allied Powers. Zelensky’s Churchilian remarkable and historic address will be the most indomitable political oratories of all time.
The two different leaders of different time are cheek by jowl for fierce battle cry to defend their native soil, men, women and children. The history remembers statesmen’s of two different generations for their vigour in the same hall for their undivided communalities. What deviates Zelensky from Churchill is the former is fighting with citizens camouflaged with combat uniform in the trenches, streets, shores and land along with troops.
Not all leaders inspire the countrymen and the populace by stationing in the home country during harsh time. The leader either voluntarily become asylum-seeker or accept the evacuation offerings and abandon the country. But Ukraine didn’t face the fate of Afghanistan as Afghan President Ghani fled country seeking asylum to avoid bloodshed in 2021 when Taliban started entering Kabul. (Latifi, 2021). US evacuation offer of President Zelensky from Kyiv was turned down the offer and quipped: “I need ammunition, not a ride.” It is a historic profound resolute that history will record for president’s refusal to leave Kyive along with his family notwithstanding that the country continues to siege.
Zelensky’s refusal to leave Kyiv had made world leaders to revisit history created by Queen Elizabeth. The leadership of these leaders magnify the true spirits of their love for the native land and native people which will inspire the upcoming leaders. Zelensky’s message was a reminder when Queen’s leadership wisdom became too classical for younger generation. President’s message was a wakeup call for every leaders who are not that accountable to the people.
The Ukraine-Russian war exhibits both traditional and modern warfare. Besides normal arms and ammunition with modern military arsenal, Czech hedgehog is extensively used in modern warfare besides cyber warfare. The history of Hedgehog dates back to 20th century. The idea originated from Czech Republic then Czechoslovakia. It was used on the Czech-German border by the Czechoslovak border fortification during World War II. It is a static anti- tank obstacle defence made of angled iron (lengths with an L- or H- shaped cross section). It was widely used by Soviet Union as an anti-tank defense. (TODAY, 2022).
The aged traditional warfare came to lifeline for the armed forces in Ukraine. The local factory workers made spiky hedgehogs. The hedgehogs were used as anti-tank barriers to thwart Russian tanks from entering into main city. Ukrainians show solidarity and supports through every means to protect from their Russian brutality.
